Bring the Word to LIFE - Acts 1:8

Apr 30, 2020

In 2018, after Momentum Youth Conference, our church youth group drove down to Kentucky to see Rend Collective (one of our favorite bands to see live). After they played, Jeremy Camp came on stage. I knew of him, but I couldn’t tell you any of his songs. Or so I thought. He began to play one of my favorite songs and I shouted, “I didn’t know this was Jeremy Camp’s song!”. I became an instant fan. The song was “Same Power”. Do you know it? Here’s the chorus.

The same power that rose Jesus from the grave The same power that commands the dead to wake Lives in us, lives in us The same power that moves mountains when He speaks The same power that can calm a raging sea Lives in us, lives in us He lives in us, lives in us

This song is based on Romans 8:11 that says “If the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.”

I love this song and verse so much because it reminds me every day that God is with me. He is WITH me. And therefore, the power that rose Jesus from the grave is WITH me. He LIVES in me!

When my kids are having difficulty at school or with siblings or just life, I often say to them, “Remember, the same power that rose Jesus from the grave lives in you. You can do this. You can be kind. You can face the hard things because you have the Holy Spirit in you!”

What a promise. What an amazing truth to cling to when life is rough.

Acts 1:8 says “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

We have power. We can do anything God asks of us because He empowers us to do so. But He doesn’t give us His power just so we can accomplish things. He gives it so we can be His witnesses. Am I using His power to be His light in the world? Am I using His power to tell others about Jesus and His saving grace? Am I allowing the Spirit to work in my life for His glory?

Lord, thank You for giving me Your Spirit. Thank you for giving me Your power. Grant me vision to see Your power at work in my life and the lives of others. Use me to bring You glory. Amen.
